Pharmacovigilance (PV) is the science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug related problem.
Importance of pharmacovigilance:
Medicines are used to treat diseases. Medicines have some side effects to the health of the patients. Most of the cases, the side effects are mild and disappeared on their own. But sometimes, medicines cause some unintentional and noxious adverse effects those induce serious health problems. These serious effects of medicines must be reported. Pharmacovigilance addresses these ADRs providing evidence related to medicine-related problems, treatment failure, counterfeit/poor quality medicines or drug interactions.
